What is EV training???

I hear EV training is important for online battles...

What is it?

its where you battle certain pokemon to get effort values in a certain stat which boost that stat like fighting zubats to gain speed, for each 4 evs you gain 1 stat point, you can have a maximum of 510 evs in total, and each stat can have a maximum of 255, also to check what evs pokemon give off check serebii it says what each one gives you

So how do i get an EV? Do i just keep battling zubats?
How do i know when to stop.
What other pokemon can be battled for other stats?

any pokemon in the battle with that pokemon will get the ev/s, you either use the counter or count it up yourself or once you've got all 510 evs a person in the sunyshore market (in d/p) will give you a ribbon, every pokemon gives off ev/s i just used zubat as an example

So basically i battle a zubat 510 times and my speed stats are maxed?

no 255 times the max a stat can have is 255, the total of all stats is 510

Damn it is really complicated. Are there any people that do other peoples EV's??? And then you give them a pokemon?

its alot easier than it sounds its pretty much just fighting the same pokemon over and over again for a while if you have pokerus, macho brace or power items it speeds it up

can get a bit boring and repetitive but it's worth it when you destroy people.

I printed all the EV pages of serebii about a month ago. Used alot of paper.

can some1 tell me what i should EV train my mudkip on, it is out of attack and sp.attack, it has a adamant nature, so i thought attack, but most of its good moves use sp.attack, so which 1 attack or sp.attack, or should i just breed another 1? thanks for your help also i need a torchic for a data/perma trade thanks again

a good idea would be a mix of defense and sp.def, as manga-me pointed out to me, to see the full detail ev reccomendation check out the rate my team thread where he helped with my swampert

I find EV training really confusing... So if I need 4 EV points to get an extra stat does that mean for speed I would have to fight 2 golbats as it gives 2 speed points???

not all at once, but over time it improves, such as my weavile which i EV'd was going up +2 in attack, suddenly it went +9
